Staying Steady in a Shaky World | Now an Unlocked Devotional

December 17, 2021 by Eliana 2 Comments

I submitted a Christmas devotional called “Keeping Steady in a Shaky World” to Unlocked.org a year ago, and at last, it has arrived!

In their own words, Unlocked is a quarterly devotional for teens featuring daily readings centered on God’s Word. It was an honor to work with them and share a few thoughts on Isaiah 7 with their readers.

Here’s a tiny sneak-peak of my devotional:

“The holiday season isn’t always a time of joy. Stress can push at us from all sides—family, school deadlines, Christmas preparations, etc. Life is shaky. And not just for us. While Ahaz was king of Judah, his life was pretty shaky too.”

Not only was the devotional published in print and online, but it is also available as audio, which is new for me! The web page includes a podcast-style video where you can listen to Andrew Stevens from Unlocked read my devotional out loud.

I hope you are blessed by the Christmas truths in Isaiah 7 today! It is a wonderful thing to know the full power of the gospel, and the background in Isaiah helps us to see its power more clearly.

Jesus is our prophecied King, a part of God’s plan long before the Christmas star was ever raised up into the sky.

Throughout the Bible, we see people messing up again and again, proving again and again that we cannot rest our hope in kings.

But you know what? Even though we’re imperfect, God sent His perfect Son to save us.

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. – Matthew 1:21

That’s what Christmas is all about.

And Ahaz’s story is a beautiful reminder of why the gospel matters, and the One we should put our trust in.
