Hello everyone! I’ve been having a lot of fun with the Turning Point Story Contest so far, and I have a special announcement and giveaway for you all.
In case you missed the original post, the Turning Point Story Contest is a challenge for 9- to 13-year-olds to write a short story about a difficult choice. It has some pretty epic prizes too—such as a full set of The Green Ember Series books, signed by S.D. Smith.
What makes Turning Point special is that the young writers who seek to enter aren’t alone in their short story writing endeavors. Throughout the course of January, we covered the whole short story writing process.
Some pretty cool guest posters shared their writing wisdom in these three posts.
- Coming Up with a Cunning Plan – Four Ways to Find Your Perfect Story by Cara Devereux
- Time to Write! Four Things Every Story Needs by Chelsea Pennington
- Editing Your Short Story – How to Get Your Story Where It Needs to Be by Faith Blum
Originally, the deadline was January 30th, but I’ve decided the fun doesn’t need to end quite yet.
With such epic prizes and guest posts, I want this opportunity to reach as many young writers as possible. In light of that, I am extending the contest four more weeks.
The new deadline for the Turning Point Short Story Contest is February 28th.
11:59 PM, PST, to be extra specific. 😉 And still 2021. You don’t get an extra year, sorry.
I hope you enjoy this extra time, and it helps you make your story the best it can be! If you have already submitted your story but you feel like it wasn’t ready yet, feel free to work on it more and resubmit it later.
Meanwhile, I have something else special to share…
Are you outside the age limit for the short story contest, but still hoping for Green Ember awesome-ness? You’re in luck!
I am giving away a set of the four Green Ember audiobooks plus a $15 Amazon gift card to help spread the word about the contest.
Sweet deal, right? Enter by using the preview below, or you can enter it here if that doesn’t work. Have fun!
Ooh! This looks exciting.?

You are very welcome, Allie! =D Me too!
My brother entered already but I’ll let him know he’s allowed to edit it some more if he wants! We nearly forgot about the contest so we were in a rush yesterday to edit it and send it out lol *resulted in near disaster as he didn’t save it and he closed it and when we tried to recover it his computer crashed and yeah* adventures of a writer…
Oh dear! That’s no fun. All part of the writing process though! 😉 XD I’m so glad you were able to save it!
